It was a hot summer day the 13th August 2016. It was the birth of the "Surgical Thoughts: A blog about surgery". Exactly three years ago I was publishing the first post. Since then, 70 more were published, in a rate of two per month. Yes, this blog is 3 years old. Great!
During these three years I tried to cover several areas of surgery. I tried to talk about clinical aspects of different diseases, technical aspects of several operations, show videos about different areas of surgery, publish pictures, and to make several considerations of what general surgery is or should be according to my ideas. I will always have in my mind an idea: “A surgeon can have a hobby, but he must know how to do everything.” – Prof. Dr. Martin Walz.
Many hours were spent to keep this blog rolling. Many mornings, afternoons and evenings were spent seated at my desk thinking on themes, reading and writing. However, this is one of those things that makes me enjoy surgery and keeps me working.
I must say thank you to all the readers, and a special thanks to those who gave me their feedback. This is very important for me to keep searching, reading and make my own research to have interesting material to write about. Additionally, a special thanks to my father (Prof. Dr. Carlos Manuel Costa Almeida) who is always commenting and re-emailing my posts, and to Dr. Teresa Caroço for being at my side giving ideas for publications.
To you all: Thank you!
Now… Fourth year here we go!
Dr. Carlos Eduardo Costa Almeida
