Nowadays minimally invasive surgery is the preferred approach to treat colorectal pathologies. Colon cancer is no exception.
Laparoscopic surgery has advantages over open surgery. Less postoperative pain, less surgical site infection, sooner first oral intake and faster recovery are some of the worldwide accepted advantages.
Uncertainty about oncologic outcomes and survival rate when using laparoscopy to treat colorectal cancer, delayed its widespread use. However, several trials concluded that laparoscopic colectomy has the same oncologic outcomes comparing to open surgery. Since then, minimally invasive surgery is becoming the gold standard.
In that setting, I am publishing a video of a laparoscopic right colectomy. I usually perform an extracorporeal anastomosis through the minilaparotomy necessary to extract the specimen.
Hope you enjoy!
