"Dear friends and fellows
Today's post is very special to me. Today's post is once again history. Today's post is a "thank you" to all the readers. Today's post marks the Fifth (5th) Anniversary of "Surgical Thoughts: A blog about surgery".
Yes, five years passed and it was worth the effort. Why?
The first post was published in August 2016, setting the beginning of this work and adventure. Since then two posts a month were published, the eBook "First 100 Thoughts" was edited and published online free to download, a total of 119 posts were published covering several topics of general surgery.

Knowledge is paramount for a quality clinical practice. Doctors should never be limited in knowledge by others or by themselves. Unfortunately, this is what is happening in Portuguese surgery departments. I believe the "winter is coming" to Portuguese surgery if this castrating mentality keeps ruling.
What we learn from one specific area can be the answer to solve a problem in a different one. Knowledge has no boundaries. Those who limit their knowledge to one specific topic are doomed to a limited mind and a limited ability to go further.
The goal of all the posts published in "Surgical Thoughts: A blog about surgery" is to stimulate a healthy discussion among surgeons (as if it was possible), make them think differently, and question all protocols. Thinking out of the box is difficult, is subject to criticism by many, but is what makes the world goes round. To summarize the core idea, I would say: Respect the legis artis and keep looking for the new legis artis.

Thank you for reading "Surgical Thoughts: A blog about surgery". Keep reading and commenting. Happy Fifth (5th) Anniversary to you all.
All the best
Carlos
